Headmasters in Goodbye Mr. Chips

The first headmaster  of Brookfield we find in the beginning of the novel is Mr. Weatherby who was an old man. He was the man who interviewed Mr. Chips when Chips joined the school in 1970. He was a good man and advised Chips to give his enthusiasm to Brookfield and Brookfield would give him something in return. After this interview we find his character no more in the story. When Mr. Wetherby died, Mr. Meldrum became the next became the headmaster of Brookfield in 1970. He served the Brookfield with devotion till 1900.  After him, Mr.Ralston After Meldrum Mr. Ralston, 37 years old, became the head master of Brookfield in 1900. He wanted to bring Brookfield to the level of Harrow and Eton. He was a live wire. He quarreled with Mr. Chips.  When Mr. Ralston was compelled to leave Brookfield, Mr. Chatteris, 34 years old, became the Head of Brookfield in 1911.He had a great regard with Chips. In 1916 he requested Mr. Chips to rejoin the school. He died in the same year.
